Ellipsus was founded on principles of user autonomy and privacy. We’re deeply committed to creative freedom (in fact, we’re pretty outspoken about it), and believe that writers should own their words, ideas, and creative futures without fear of censorship from hostile entities.
Coming from fanfic backgrounds, we’ve witnessed many bans and shutdowns of writing platforms over the years, and we have no interest in policing what creatives do. We want Ellipsus to provide a safe and secure space where you can write whatever you want.
NSFW content
NSFW content is not illegal. It is permitted in Ellipsus. For definitions of illegal content, please see our TOS and refer to your local laws for clarification.
Writing in the text editor is private by default. We do not actively look at or police your documents. (This has been a part of our Privacy Policy from the beginning.)
Is fan fiction allowed on Ellipsus?
Yes indeed! We absolutely support fanfic (and might write it ourselves ?).
Paying for Ellipsus Plus features does not mean your fan fiction (or writing in general) is being monetized. Ellipsus Plus supports our hosting platform—it has nothing to do with the content of your writing.
What about public content?
If you share your writing publicly via a Reader link or Ellipsus’s sharing features, it’s subject to our guidelines and local laws. Beyond that, we don’t impose content restrictions on what you write privately in Ellipsus.
We don't actively police public work, unless it's reported to us/we receive avalid legal or DMCA request. (If so, we will handle that according to our policies and legal obligations).
It is the author’s discretion to share their work publicly, or keep it private.
